Fire Safety for Older Adults

As we grow older, our risk of dying in a fire goes up dramatically. Fire prevention and planning are key elements in reducing the risk of death and injury from fire. In the event of a fire, remember that every second counts, so you and your family must be prepared.

In Case of Fire

If you experience a fire, do not use water. Call 911 immediately. Never attempt to use water to extinguish a grease fire. While awaiting the fire department’s arrival, an all-purpose fire extinguisher can be used, but only if you have one ready and know how to use it.
